PenelopeWhite Gray Quarter Horse or QH Cross Mare

    Name:   Penelope
Breed and Color:   Gray Quarter Horse or QH Cross
    Age:   14
Height:   TBD – Estimated around 14.3 hh
    Gender:   Mare

Since she arrived at Believe, pretty little Penelope has been one of the first faces to greet our staff and visitors as they drive into the Ranch. And we haven’t received a single complaint about that yet! This gal just can’t contain her friendly and curious personality and loves to meet new people – especially if they have tasty snacks to share. Before she was the unofficial Ranch Greeter, we were told that this beautiful gray was a performance horse and an incredible partner to her rider. Unfortunately, her work as a competition horse was cut short by an injury to the tendon in her front left leg that left her hardly able to walk on her own. She was tragically dumped at auction in July 2022 where she was saved by the Believe Ranch team. Since then, she has been receiving top-notch care as we aid her in her recovery. She has already made great strides and is moving with minimal pain, but is still undergoing evaluation by our vet and trainers. Because of this, we can’t say for sure if she will be a light riding horse again. But, no matter what, we know that she is an absolute dream to have around and will make a wonderful companion for her lucky forever family!

Though she is as sweet as a marshmallow, Penelope is currently living the good life with her own stall and paddock as she recovers from her injury. She occasionally mixes with a few neighbor geldings and seems to sit in the mid-to-low end of the hierarchy, making her a pretty easy lady to get along with. As for her interactions with people, Miss P has yet to meet anyone who didn’t fall in love with her and see her for the Disney Princess pony she truly is.

Penelope is up-to-date on vaccines, worming, teeth float, farrier, and vetting.

Recommended Rider:  Due to her injury, Penelope hasn’t undergone a training or riding evaluation yet as her focus is on recovery. However, she is rumored to be a former performance horse and very well broke, so our hope is that she could recover enough to be a very light riding horse for kids! But, until we know more about what her future holds with riding, she is graded as a companion-only horse that is suitable for any level of handler.

Adoption Requirements:   None. Penelope is a likable gal and gets along well with the other horses she is occasionally mixed in with. However, she is a pretty independent lady and is therefore happy to be adopted out alone.

Ailments/Limitations:  Penelope is currently on paddock rest due to a tendon injury in her front left leg that she sustained prior to rescue. She is receiving amazing care from our veterinarian and we are hopeful that she will recover beautifully! In the meantime, she is able to move around with minimal discomfort but is being kept in a limited area to allow her leg to rest.

PENELOPE IS STILL CURRENTLY UNDERGOING TRAINING AND EVALUATION AT BELIEVE RANCH & RESCUE AND IS NOT CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION. HOWEVER, SHE WILL BE AVAILABLE AND LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME SOON!
