This little stack of sweetness is Waffles, the second youngest Believe Ranch rescue ever! Spunky and full of life now, that wasn’t quite the case when we met this boy and his mom, Willow, in July 2022. As an ill, four-day-old foal, Waffles and Willow were left at auction to fend for themselves. Our hearts broke when we saw this baby’s crooked little face, watched him hobbling with weakness in his back legs, and observed jaundice clearly showing in his gums. They were scooped up (not without some additional drama – check out Willow’s bio for the full story!) and Waffles was given the emergency medical attention that he desperately needed. We were devastated at his diagnosis of Neonatal Isoerythrolysis with suspected liver damage and his prognosis was extremely bleak. But this little spitfire was spunky from the start and didn’t seem to know that he was in dire straits. Perhaps he knew better than anyone else, though, because he soon made a miraculous recovery! Now a happy, healthy boy, Waffles blesses us every day with constant reasons to laugh, sweet cuddles, and a reminder to approach every day with excitement.

Like any colt, Waffles has his spicy moments, too. He isn’t afraid to take an occasional playful nibble or kick, and our trainers are working with him on setting safe boundaries with his human friends. He has also started on halter training and is learning some manners from Mom, his friend Chester, and his other rescue pals in neighboring paddocks. Waffles is very familiar with vets and has already had a couple of farrier appointments, too! He is learning all that goes into being a healthy, well-mannered, and cared-for horse while spreading his youthful, adorable, and sweet personality to all that he meets.

Waffles is up-to-date on vaccines, worming, teeth float, farrier, and vetting.

Recommended Rider:  Suitable for a Trainer who has experience with the proper training and starting of young horses. Waffles is filled to the brim with potential and is a blank slate. With the right care and education, he has a bright future ahead of him!

Adoption Requirements:   Waffles came into rescue with his mom, Willow, in April 2022. Because he is still nursing, he and his gorgeous mum need to be adopted together.

Ailments/Limitations:  When Waffles first arrived in the safe hands of our rescue team he, unfortunately, had a very bleak prognosis. He had a crooked face, weakness in his rear legs, was jaundiced, and had signs of liver damage. He was later diagnosed with Neonatal Isoerythrolysis, an incompatibility with his mom’s blood type that caused his immune system to attack his red blood cells. However, he defied all odds and began to show a miraculous recovery. He is now a healthy, strong, and feisty colt! Once he is fully weaned, we anticipate that he will be taken off his medications and will be able to live a normal life.

WAFFLES IS STILL CURRENTLY UNDERGOING TRAINING AND EVALUATION AT BELIEVE RANCH & RESCUE AND IS NOT CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION. HOWEVER, HE WILL BE AVAILABLE AND LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME SOON!
