RainTri-Color Paint Quarter Horse or QH Cross Mare

    Name:   Rain
Breed and Color:   Paint Quarter Horse or QH Cross
    Age:   15
    Height:   14.3 hh
    Gender:   Mare

It’s not surprising that this pretty little tri-color paint caught your eye! Rain is a gorgeous and well-built mare that is just bursting with potential. Sensitive and lacking confidence, she found herself in rescue after a high-school-aged student was unsuccessful in working with her as an FFA project. After arriving at Believe, our trainers quickly recognized that this girl was likely started too quickly and that she needed to turn over a new leaf. She was brought back to the basics with desensitization and groundwork and has been improving steadily. Though still quite jumpy and nervous, Rain hasn’t shown a tendency to bolt and has a good head on her shoulders. She seems to crave a trusting connection with the humans she works with and will need someone who understands her need to go slow. She is a bit more reserved than most horses and will likely prefer to bond and work with only a handful of people. However, she is sweet as honey and tries so hard to please! Rain has been ridden a handful of times by our trainers was making some great progress. However, her training was recently put on pause after it was discovered that she has some issues with her lower spine that cause her quite a bit of discomfort. We are working diligently with a chiropractor and veterinarian to see if we can get to the bottom of her pain and get this gal, as the saying goes, back to “right as rain.”

Rain is currently living outdoors with a shelter in a mixed herd and doing well. She is an extremely easy keeper and can get a little chunky in the belly quite easily, so she’ll need help keeping her figure in check. Rain is a very passive and low-ranking gal and would do best in a neutral or submissive herd. She has gotten used to dogs and the hustle and bustle of the ranch but is still quite scared of the farrier due to her nervousness around her back feet. Like with everything, though, she has already shown improvement with this in the limited time she has been with Believe.

Rain is up-to-date on vaccines, worming, teeth float, farrier, and vetting.

Recommended Rider:  Suitable for a trainer or an advanced rider working with a trainer. Rain doesn’t seem to have been started properly under saddle and our trainers at Believe have been working on desensitizing her and restarting her. She has been ridden a handful of times and was showing improvement before her training was put on pause due to some lower back issues. If she is given the all-clear to work and ride again, this little lady could be the perfect project horse for an experienced handler.

Adoption Requirements:   Rain’s best friend is a companion gelding (and the sweetest, most lovable buckskin on the planet) named Spirit. Because of their bond, we would love to see them find their forever home together!

Ailments/Limitations:  Rain is currently sidelined from work and riding due to some issues with her lower back. We are working with a chiropractor and veterinarian to try to get to the bottom of her problems and are hopeful that she’ll be back at her best soon!
