Say hello to Spirit! But don’t be surprised when Spirit is already at the fence to say hi before you can even raise your hand for a welcoming wave. This boy is one of the friendliest, mellowest, and sweetest horses around. If you told us that his parents were Golden Retrievers we wouldn’t be surprised; he is just one big puppy dog that loves to be with people. Be prepared, though, because he does love and expect lots of pets, scratches, and cuddles from anyone within reach! In addition to this good boy’s stellar personality, Spirit is also a former ranch horse with wonderful manners. Though he isn’t the riding horse he used to be, Spirit still has a lot of life left and his mission is to be everyone’s best friend. Our dream for this gentle spirit would be for him to find a home to retire in or to enjoy as a cherished equine therapy horse.
When he isn’t hanging out with his human friends, Spirit enjoys paddock living with a mixed herd of fellow rescues. He’s a mid-ranking boy in his crew and isn’t afraid to put other horses in their place. However, his best friend is one of the lower-ranking horses in the herd, so he’s still a sweetie.
Spirit is up-to-date on vaccines, worming, teeth float, farrier, and vetting.
Recommended Rider: Due to his severe arthritis, Spirit is retired from riding. However, he would love to be in your pocket as the best companion horse you could ever ask for!
Adoption Requirements: Spirit’s best buddy is Rain, a pretty paint mare currently in training. Because of their bond, we would love for them to be adopted together! But they may be separated if the right homes come along.
Ailments/Limitations: As expected with his age, Spirit has arthritis and also has a calcified bone overgrowth in his right front pastern. The joint is still intact, though, and doesn’t seem to cause him too much pain or limitation. Because of this, Spirit is looking for a home that will invest in the proper care and supplements to keep him feeling as young and lively as possible. He is also a guy that needs to have his teeth cared for regularly.
